Sarita was raised in Middle Tennessee. As a Mexican-American, she found a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion at an early age, inspired by her grandparents, Mama Rosita, and Papa Tinoco. This led her to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Arts in Sociology from Middle Tennessee State University.
Sarita has experience working with immigrant communities. She supported the Franklin County School System as an English as a Second Language Assistant. She also developed and led the Spanish Speaking Programming for the Health Literacy Partnership at Middle Tennessee State University, which helped underserved populations gain knowledge in how to become active participants in their healthcare process. Additionally, Sarita served as Vice-Chair within a Latinx Employee Resource Group supporting the immigrant community within the workforce and earning a chapter leadership award.
